"Following a hugely influential pattern of genre defining releases, Broken Note's Black Mirror EP is the next installment from this highly sought-after musical force. Moving towards faster beats and new structures, this is undoubtedly the record followers have been waiting for. A perfect continuation from their last record, this next chapter showcases a further refinement of this acts core sound: heavy, dense and cutting-edge. As intoxicating, powerful, and encompassing as ever, Black Mirror EP proves this act has no equal in the realm of monstrous, sub driven sound innovation.
Since an early sequence of rapid-fire releases, Broken Note have torn an unrelenting path of sonic carnage that has led them on tours across the globe whilst collaborating with some of the most influential figures in experimental sound, including Amon Tobin, Black Sun Empire and Dj Hidden.
Featuring an impressive attention to detail and considered sound design Black Mirror EP showcases a multitude of variations and developments within an already consistently progressive sound. From the title track's first drop, Black Mirror's tearing mid range and predatory low end asserts itself as a heavyweight contender and a must for any collector of malevolent bass music. The dark & encompassing “Guillotine” steps again into the unexplored, further bridging the gap between the precision of dark electronic music and heavy metal sensibilities. On the 'B' side, the evocative "Descent" showcases cinematic halfstep drum and bass beats with a progressive edge, evolving into a relentless percussive mayhem and punishing low end. Finally, the closing, "Stitch", retains the cinematic tonalities and density of its predecessor and combines them with a more contained tempo.
The electronic music world evolves quickly: trends come and go, artists experiment and influence each other, still, Broken Note's 2014 offering proves very clearly that nobody else can write tracks with such weight, drive and detail. The epitome of gritty, organic bass still hasn't found any equal."
