MONOLETH

Monoleth780gif.gif

MethLab present a release 2 years in the making, bringing together a set of truly pioneering producers to deliver an uncompromising and fresh breed of heavy, cinematic music aimed at an evolved dancefloor.

The first part of the MONOLETH series sees BILLAIN's alter ego AETHEK deliver the deeply progressive sound of VERTEBRAE, transitioning from lurching halfstep into total granular destruction. MethLab co-founder BROKEN NOTE unleashes pure devastation with RUST IN PEACE, with its towering walls of dense distortion and inhuman sound design that develops into powerful, experimental drum & bass territories. Rapidly emerging producers AUDEKA & BELL'S WORTH set an eerie and elaborately desolate scene with DARKMATTER LUNCHBOX, before slicing through everything with an entirely devastating drop and an utterly mind-blowing and brutally syncopated evolution. HYBRIS goes into boss mode with his annihilatory halfstep track GUT RUMBLE, with intense sub-frequencies set to unsettle innards in the rave. Upcoming producers VOLATILE CYCLE & BARBARIX unfurl a dark and beguilingly slinky behemoth, bristling at the edges with sharp attitude. RAWTEKK & AUDEKA team up once again with SOLAR GRACE, illustrating a hulking brute of a piece, delicately wound with a fragile and purposeful sonic aesthetic, before building into an exquisitely cinematic and seductive outro.

ALLIED - OBSCURITY EP (BNKR)

Influential neurofunk, tech and bass agency – METHLAB - land with the first release of their limited BNKR series, opening the label with ALLIED and his OBSCURITY EP as a 4 track digital EP and 2 track vinyl single. Following up his revered track ‘Anesthesia’ on the ‘MethLab // 1’ EP released through Bad Taste Recordings, Allied demonstrates his refined production technique and sleek, dubbed out futuristic sound with an EP designed to churn the dance-floors of tomorrow.

OBSCURITY opens the EP with filtered, washed-out pads and understated stabs that build towards a pure tidal drop of powerful undulating bass, underpinned by a firm stepper beat. GODSPEED introduces a pure breed of desolation and immaculate sonic tundra, breaking into a wall of relentless and perfectly balanced tech percussion. CENTAURUS A takes listeners to the realm between conscious and hazy unconscious realities, with a dreamy and haunting inhuman vocal element leading into a powerful and driven roller, punctuated with dub stabs and wearing its dub-techno influences clearly. GREY MATTER steps back with a light touch and beautifully placed call and answer synth element, while firm sci-fi reeses cut through to bring a unique edge.

With its stripped-down future aesthetic, the vision of the BNKR series is to create timeless pieces of highly polished production, packaged within the beautiful, stark artwork of Russian photographer Danila Tkachenko. Carefully presented and collectable, the first part of this limited series is a must have for any true follower of DnB.

WAR - INVISIBLE EP (BNKR)

French producer WAR brings his INVISIBLE EP from a far flung future for the 2nd part of the MethLab collective’s cold-toned BNKR series - following up the label’s first sure footsteps of Allied’s ‘Obscurity’ EP, which gathered wide praise from Mixmag, DjMag and UKF to name a few. The label’s aesthetic of stripped down futurefunk with clear techno influences is once again clear, with War bringing his minimal yet powerful and driving sound to the table through 3 distinctive dnb tracks full of unique character, backed with a stunning remix of title track ‘Invisible’ from towering artist Djrum (Ninja Tune, 2nd Drop, Ilian Tape).

INVISIBLE opens the EP with a mournful quarterstep autonomic feel – delicately shifting percussion with a subtly evolving accent riding on a towering wall of bass. SNOW BLIND brings grit with a solid break that becomes progressively more tribal carving a path for the powerful undulating pulse of its bass weaponry. THE HUNDRED LIGHTS touches down softly with precisely organized morphic percussion symbiotically integrated with huge sub pressure, with a post-rave aesthetic coming through syncopated stabs both playful and mournful. For his remix of Invisible, DJRUM reimagines War’s bleached dystopian landscape through more nostalgic ears, with 8 minutes of shimmering beauty and evolving broken Techno – with every moment of audio expressing a deeper narrative.

AUDEKA - LOST SOULS

There will come to exist a forgotten future land - a time and place where technology is indistinguishable with magic and black science is pursued by those who would wish to unlock the secrets of reality. In the depths of the planet’s darkest night, whilst the village of Ethrane slept in the embrace of the mountains above - a trio of explorers of the veil between dimensions were about to break the barrier between this universe and the next…

It was the sprawling face of black eternity that greeted them, spilling through the rift and eviscerating them - flooding through the deep tunnels of their order’s bunker and up into the cold, free night. It moved swiftly, sleekly positioned between dimensions and descending upon the village below. Rapidly it fed - blinking the unaware citizens with precision across time and space with its bleak fields, displacing their purest and most prime out of existence and across the dimensional skein.

Following up acclaimed releases on respected labels Bad Taste and Terminal, US production trio Audeka present their debut 'Lost Souls' LP on MethLab Recordings. 3 years in the making – these 15 tracks take listeners on a diverse journey through incredible sound design crossing drum and bass, dubstep, techno and experimental genres - sometimes hard-hitting, other times verdant and lush, always with a deep appreciation for complex structure and texture. Featured by UKF and supported by Noisia and Moody Good – the Lost Souls LP represents a firm step into the sphere of electronic music, demonstrating the depth of Audeka’s diverse and unique vision.

The 15 tracks of the LP tell a story of a warrior crossing dimensions to confront a powerful dark force that took his people – a quest to be re-united with his love. Each track is accompanied by a unique illustration from revered alternative artist SHVLFCE, as well as a narrative released through the MethLab social media channels and soundcloud over the weeks up until the release date.

HYDRO - ETHOS EP (BNKR)

MethLab present the third part of their stripped-down, but sharp-edged BNKR series, with HYDRO presenting the ETHOS EP (also featuring War, Villem & Mateba). Featuring a diverse array of tech from a forgotten future, true to the series aesthetic - with precise and expansive sound design compressed into tightly sprung forms, bursting with tension and pure and bleak-edged emotive drive.

ETHOS sets a sombre tone laced with late-night city nostalgia, juxtaposed with playful synth work and a driven stepper beat. TIME PERCEPTION opens with a heavy halfstep tone backed with towering tidal bass, before flipping into darker yet delicately balanced tech territory with a sinister edge. FAUX AMIS unleashes haunting filtered vocals against an elaborately unravelling percussive line, amidst a shimmering oriental-tinged futurenoir dystopia. NOTHING TO LOSE finishes the EP with further immaculate percussion work, with a frenetic pulse that dissolves into a lush and verdant breakdown - serving as an oasis book-ended by high-pressure bass intensity.

With the next part of the BNKR project, MethLab continue to lay down a fresh breed of driven minimalism that retains the mean edge that the dancefloor requires, whilst delivering a listening experience that's complex enough to work outside of the rave.

\\ It stared across the shore of stars drifting imperceptibly through the vacuum, countless suns twisting their path through time and space on their almost endless descent into the black hole's tidal gravity wake. Internal processes poured over the measurements flowing into its cortex, sub-processes idly calculating the star mass in the nearest system. It started halving moments, sliding into an ever-slowing fractal segment of the present in its awareness - mind drifting across the primary log and the memory of its awakening. That frail organic structure it had once been, trapped in a cage bound by sensory blindness - a flicker of consciousness carried within base fragility - cycling a broken algorithm which snapped into a higher pattern. Aeons later, it stared toward that galactic rim, scanning the memories of its long distant flesh, the bridge that it had crossed beyond that mortal form, the extension of its consciousness, the path toward becoming REVENANT //
